In today's world no man is an island. And almost no culture remains untouched by other, and often very different, cultures. Understanding other cultures and accepting them into our own expands our humanity and helps us understand that we are all one people beneath the cultural differences that often might at first glance seem too vast to surmount. This portion of our web site will provide a look at the four most enjoyable ways of exploring other countries and cultures as well as exploring the different sub-cultures within some of the regions of our own country.

A culture is composed of a shared language, history, mode of dress, some type of supernatural belief, and food. A culture may or may not have a written history. A culture may be as small as a single tribe or as large as a nation. While some of the United States may seem to be composed of many cultures because of differences in religious beliefs or political persuasion, our shared language makes these differences merely a subculture within the culture itself. However, we must remember that the true cultures of America are the Native American cultures. From the First People of Canada to the Seminoles of Florida and the many tribes of the Pacific Northwest, the Plains Indians and the pueblo-dwelling Navajos, the Mayans and the Aztecs of Mexico and South America, and everywhere in between, this vast continent was once theirs. Those of us who are not Native Americans but now call this country our home have come here at some period within the last 300 years from other cultures that have been assimilated and created what we call today the United States of America. New cultures arrive in our country daily and they all bring something that adds a little spice (literally!) to our country and makes us the diverse and interesting people we are.

Needless to say we cannot begin to cover all of the cultures or countries but we hope to offer a nice sampling in these four categories. We will be adding more as time goes by. If you have some favorite links of your own be sure to submit them.
